Case Study: Ionburst

Meet Ionburst

Established in 2018 by a husband and wife team, Dr David Lanc and Anne Lanc’s mission is to make data privacy a human right. Their vision and work is focused on creating a viable, futureproof data privacy and security infrastructure to build greater trust and quantum resilient data communications across the internet.

Ionburst uniquely enables organisations to migrate to the Cloud without data concentration risk. Their customers gain complete control over security, resilience, and privacy compliance on a data asset basis. Additionally, it cuts financial and carbon costs of storage, and eliminates the exposure of data and third-party risk in the process.

Ionburst is currently made-up of a team of 20 in the UK and US, spanning engineering, security, product, operations, business development and specialist advisors.

Involvement in the Cyber Cluster

“The team at ScotlandIS have been fantastic. We have taken part in some great events and have been involved in the Cyber Cluster board which has enabled us to contribute to the community and feedback on our experiences. We’re proud to be apart of that contribution to the wider national interest making Scotland a more secure and thriving digital nation.

“One of the other real benefits we have found of being part of ScotlandIS and Cyber Cluster is the introductions we’ve had to senior decision makers. This has enabled us to make more organisations in Scotland aware of the technology that is available and how we can support them. This has significantly improved awareness of Ionburst and in particular within the Scottish NHS.

“The Cyber Cluster also support us in amplifying our updates and latest news to the community.

“The ScotlandIS team and Cyber Cluster are incredibly supportive and have always gone the extra mile for us as members.”

Ionburst is an Edinburgh-based advanced data protection start-up, supported by Innovate UK, Digital Catapult, DIT and Scottish Enterprise. Their vision and work is focused on creating a viable, futureproof data privacy and security infrastructure to build greater trust and quantum resilient data communications across the internet.

Ionburst builds on the research and innovation experience of Founder Dr David Lanc, in data and ecommerce security over 20 years. In 2018, Dr Lanc proposed a paradigm shift in the way we can protect data from hackers and ransomware. This approach enables a new way to protect the privacy, security, recovery and sovereignty of data in a highly regulated world. Delivering quantum resilient protection and full chain of custody over data, which is essential to data integrity.

Ionburst innovation is now recognised by leading cybersecurity and data privacy experts as an essential step to dealing with the problems exposed by rapid adoption of 5G and edge computing, as well as Cloud data ransomware attacks. This has resulted in Ionburst being engaged with the Defence industry in the UK and US, and with adoption of our developer-first platform. Other industries we have engaged with include government services, healthcare, privacy and financial services.
